The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan met with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia and the Coordinator for combating terrorism

    On May 30, 2023, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Gayrat Fozilov held a meeting with the Special Representative of the European Union for Central Asia Terhi Hakala and the EU Coordinator for Combating Terrorism Ilkka Salmi.

    A thorough exchange of views took place on topical issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EU. The need to expand partnership in countering the threats of terrorism, violent extremism, transnational crime and drug trafficking was noted.

    EU representatives highly appreciated Uzbekistan's experience in returning citizens, especially women and children from conflict zones, as well as their reintegration into society.

    Special attention is paid to the issues of cooperation in the Afghan direction. Mutual interest was expressed in continuing the dialogue on the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan. In this context, the parties welcomed the successful holding of the fourth meeting by the Special Representative of the European Union and Central Asian Countries for Afghanistan on May 26 this year in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan), the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
