Trump: Donbass needs to be "divided" to end the war

The US president denied a report by The Financial Times that he called on Zelensky to give Russia the entire Donbas. Instead, the Ukrainian region needs to be "divided" along the current front line to end the war, Trump said.

The Ukrainian region of Donbass must be "divided" to end the war, while most of it will remain under Russian control. US President Donald Trump made such a statement on the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war on Sunday, October 19. dw.com.

"Let everything stay the way it is. It is already divided now. I think 78% of the region is already occupied by Russia," Trump told reporters aboard the presidential Air Force One plane.

"Later they will be able to agree on something among themselves. But now both sides of the conflict must stop along the front line - go home, stop fighting, stop killing people," the head of the White House said.

Trump did not urge Zelensky to give up the whole Donbass

At the same time, Trump denied information from an article by The Financial Times published earlier on October 19. It claimed that the American president, during a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky, called on him to give Russia the entire Donbas, adding that otherwise Russian President Vladimir Putin would "destroy" Ukraine.

Trump: India will continue to pay tariffs if it does not reduce oil purchases from Russia

During a conversation with reporters, Trump also spoke about India, recalling that the country's prime Minister, Narendra Modi, promised him to limit purchases of Russian oil. If this does not happen, New Delhi will continue to pay "huge tariffs," the US president added.
