Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have identified 10 hydraulic posts on the Syrdarya River for an automatic water metering system

    Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan Shavkat Khamrayev met with Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan Nurjan Nurjigitov. The parties discussed topical issues of bilateral and regional cooperation.

    In particular, the ministers discussed the automation of hydraulic posts and the digitalization of water metering on the Syrdarya River. Today, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed on 10 points where it is planned to install modern water metering systems. Nurjan Nurjigitov stressed that negotiations are underway with international financial organizations and companies on the joint implementation of the project, the press service of the Ministry of Water of Kazakhstan reported.

    The parties also discussed the modes of operation of the Naryn-Syrdarya cascade of reservoirs for the pre-flood season next year.

    At the next meeting of the Interstate Coordinating Water Management Commission of Central Asia, a forecast schedule for the operation of reservoirs will be drawn up and water supply volumes will be approved.

    "Many thanks to our colleagues from Uzbekistan for their active participation in the meeting of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and the voiced proposals. Over the past year, we have seen that our joint work gives a positive result, so we intend to continue close bilateral cooperation. We share common views on many issues. This allows us to solve most of the existing issues on a mutually beneficial basis," said Nurjan Nurjigitov, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

    Shavkat Khamrayev, in turn, stated Uzbekistan's desire to strengthen cooperation within the framework of IFAS.

    "Uzbekistan fully supports Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. And we want to strengthen cooperation in this direction, work together on projects. For example, to preserve the ecosystems of the Syrdarya and Amudarya river basins, provide local residents with high-quality drinking water supply, restore small and local reservoirs and others," said Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan Shavkat Khamraev.

    In addition, the parties discussed the development of a Regional strategy for the rational use of water resources. Following the talks, the ministers signed the minutes of the meeting.
