The delegation also included responsible representatives of Tashkent State Pedagogical University and Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies.

During the visit, negotiations were held with the Rector of the Latvian University of Natural Sciences and Technology (LLU) Irina Pilvere, familiarization with the laboratory infrastructure located in Jelgava specializing in food technologies and veterinary medicine was organized.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Riga, following the negotiations, an agreement on double-degree education was signed between Tashkent State Agrarian University and the Latvian University of Natural Sciences and Technologies with a validity period from September 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027.

The document provides for the implementation of a bachelor's degree program in the specialties "Food Technology" and "Food Quality and Innovation" according to the formula "2 + 2", that is, students will study at TSAU for the first two years, the remaining 2 years at LLU. Successful graduates will receive a diploma recognized in the European Union.

In addition, following the results of the negotiations with the Latvian side, an agreement was reached on the breeding of a new variety of Uzbek rice adapted to the natural and climatic conditions of Latvia, using the scientific and laboratory infrastructure of LLU, the Dune news agency reports.

Specialists from two universities will participate in the implementation of this innovative project. LLU will allocate a land plot for the project and, taking into account the abundance of water resources in Latvia, as well as if the project is successful, the prospect of industrialization of Uzbek rice production in Latvia will be worked out.
