For reference: Switzerland ranks 16th among 185 countries in the Global Quality Infrastructure Index (GQII), in particular, 11th in standardization, 14th in metrology and 22nd in accreditation. The Swiss Standardization Association (SNV), founded in 1919, is a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the European Organizations for Standardization (CEN-CENELEC).
During the negotiations, the parties discussed issues of improving the activities of technical and sub-committees on standardization, the active involvement of industrial enterprises and domestic manufacturers in the process of developing standards, the elimination of technical barriers to trade, as well as the creation of a unified information base of standards.
In addition, attention was paid to the development of international cooperation, harmonization of requirements for imported products and professional development of specialists in the field of technical regulation and standardization.
The parties paid special attention to strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing the competencies of specialists in the field of technical barriers to trade, as well as attracting grants and technical assistance from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Swiss SECO agency and the European Union (TAIEX).
Following the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Agency for Technical Regulation of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Swiss Association for Standardization (SNV), which will become the basis for further expansion of bilateral cooperation in the field of standardization and quality.
