    Uzbekistan and Turkey strengthen cooperation in the field of tourism

    In Ankara, Uzbekistan and Turkey signed an agreement and an action Plan aimed at developing a bilateral partnership in the field of tourism.

    The documents were signed by Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

    During the meeting, Aziz Abdukhakimov noted that thanks to the initiatives of the leaders of the two countries, significant progress has been made in the field of tourism in recent years, and the number of tourists is growing annually.

    For information: in 2018, the number of tourists from Turkey to Uzbekistan was 41,299, in 2019 - 63,539, in 2021 - 44,168, in 2022 - 75,559, in 2023 - 106,516 and in 2024 - 149,146. The number of Uzbek citizens arriving in Turkey was in 2021, 170,636 people, in 2022 - 305,831 people, in 2023 - 187,749 people and in 2024 - 229,968 people. In turn, the scale and flows of air travel have also increased significantly. There are currently 106 flights per week (in 2023, this figure was 62, in 2022 - 20, and in 2021 - 10 flights).

    The importance of further expansion of bilateral cooperation was emphasized at the meeting.

    "We intend to expand routes and connect Uzbekistan's tourist destinations with key cities in Turkey - Izmir, Mugla, Fethiye, Alanya, Adana, Bursa and others. To reach our full potential, we need to triple the number of flights. In addition, we propose to launch the Million+Million program aimed at attracting at least one million tourists to each country," A. Abdukhakimov said.

    At the meeting, the Uzbek side put forward the following proposals:

    - Increased air traffic between tourist destinations;

    - Further promotion of the tourism potential of Turkey in Uzbekistan and Uzbekistan in Turkey;

    - Attracting followers of Maturidi, Naqshbandi and Bukhari to Uzbekistan, living in the central and eastern provinces of Turkey (about 3 million people in total), expanding cooperation between museums, increasing the number of cultural events;

    - Implementation of the "Fraternal People of Turkey" program, in-depth study of the history of the two countries, joint creation of films;

    - Organization of the "Destination Forum" in Uzbekistan for representatives of the Turkish tourism industry;

    - Connecting Uzbekistan's tourist destinations with major Turkish tourist centers - Izmir, Mugla, Fethiye, Alanya, Adana, Bursa, etc., as well as tripling the number of flights;

    - The launch of the Million+Million program, which aims to attract at least one million tourists in each direction;

    - Organization of thematic exhibitions and photo exhibitions dedicated to the rapidly developing areas of tourism in Uzbekistan - ecotourism, extreme tourism, pilgrimage tourism;

    - Organization of trips for Turkish tourists to the 7th Feasts of Bukhara;

    - Creation of corners of Uzbek museum exhibits in Turkish museums;

    - Holding demonstrations, cultural festivals and open-air events in major art centers, parks and gardens in Turkey dedicated to Uzbek art - bakhshi, poppy seeds and clang dance, included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List;

    - Attracting tour operators, restaurateurs and investors to Uzbekistan in order to create tourism products;

    - Installation of signage in Turkish at airports, hotels, cafes and restaurants, creation of menus, individual routes, excursions and tours for Turkish tourists, restaurants combining cuisines of the countries;

    - Exchange of experience in various areas of tourism.

    In turn, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy supported all the initiatives of Uzbekistan.

    "Uzbekistan, with its historical and cultural wealth, is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world. Such unique cities as Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva occupy an important place in the cultural heritage not only of Central Asia, but also of the whole world. In addition, Uzbek cuisine, traditional crafts and hospitality further enhance Uzbekistan's attractiveness in the tourism sector," Mehmet Nuri Ersoy said.

    For information: there are 12 hotels and tourist facilities in Uzbekistan that cooperate with Turkey (International, Wyndham, Intercontinental, Calik Energy, Piramit Tower, Sarikoc Holding, etc.). More than 100 restaurants have also been opened in our country together with Turkish partners.

    In 2025-2026, with the support of Turkish investments, it is planned to implement 11 hotel projects totaling 167.9 million US dollars in Bukhara, Samarkand, Jizzakh, Ferghana and Tashkent regions.
