    Circumstances of the robbery

The attack was carried out by three armed intruders.

After breaking the windows, two men went inside, while the third remained outside.

According to preliminary data, masked robbers entered the building from the Seine Embankment, where construction work is underway, and used a freight elevator.

French Culture Minister Rachida Dati said the robbery took four minutes. "We arrived at the scene just a few minutes after we received information about the theft. The whole operation lasted almost four minutes - it was very fast. We must admit that this is the work of professionals," she said.

The criminals used grinding machines, a gas burner, gasoline, gloves, a walkie-talkie and a blanket during the robbery. A yellow vest was found near the museum, which one of the attackers used to pretend to be a worker.

The robbers entered the museum via a car tower.

After that, they left on scooters in the direction of the A6 highway leading to the south-east of the country.

The visitors were evacuated as soon as it became known about the robbery.

    What was stolen

Nine items from Napoleon's jewelry collection were stolen, in particular, a necklace, a brooch and a tiara.

According to Le Parisien, the crown of Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, was found broken near the museum. Later, another jewel was found.

The newspaper does not exclude that the jewelry may be melted down.

According to Rachida Dati, "the issue of museum safety in France is a long-standing problem." "For 40 years, this issue has not been given due attention," she noted.

    Paris' reaction

The leader of the right-wing National Unification party, Jordan Bardella, considers the robbery a humiliation for France.

"The Louvre robbery is a new challenge for our country. Any encroachment on national heritage is a wound to the French soul," said Marine Le Pen, head of the parliamentary faction of the National Unification Party.
