This was announced by the official representative of the Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, at a daily briefing.
According to him, the dead were Sudanese citizens. Several more people were injured. The convoy consisted of 15 trucks and was delivering humanitarian aid from Port Sudan to conflict-stricken and famine-stricken El Fasher.
Dujarric noted that as a result of the strike, presumably with the use of a drone, several vehicles caught fire and were destroyed.
"We condemn in the strongest terms this horrific attack on humanitarian workers who risked their lives trying to reach children and families on the verge of survival," he stressed.
It has not yet been established who exactly is behind the attack. The UN calls for an immediate investigation, bringing those responsible to justice and ending violence against humanitarian missions, both in Sudan and in all regions of the world in need. aa.com.tr.
