During the talks, the parties discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation in the field of ecology, environmental protection and sustainable development.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the implementation of agreements reached within the framework of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Environmental Protection, signed in January 2024. The importance of sustainable partnership and the expansion of joint scientific and practical initiatives was emphasized.
Among them are projects to create gardens of halophyte plants in Arnasay, Karmanin, Mubarek, Karakul and Nukus districts, the transfer of 1.4 tons of seeds to the Forestry Agency of Uzbekistan, as well as the introduction of digital pollution monitoring systems and the participation of Chinese specialists in the implementation of the national initiative "Yashil Makon".
The negotiations concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS XIEG). The document was signed by Aziz Abdukhakimov and CAS XIEG CEO Professor Zhang Yuanming.
According to the memorandum, the parties agreed to establish the Central Asian Research Center for Ecology and the Environment (Tashkent Headquarters) on the basis of the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change "Green University". The Center will become a platform for joint scientific research, training of specialists, exchange of technologies and practices, as well as promotion of "green" and sustainable development in the Central Asian region.
The document provides for the implementation of a wide range of areas of cooperation: holding scientific conferences and seminars, joint research and publications, equipping laboratories with modern equipment, implementing applied projects and developing human resources.
The signing of the memorandum was an important step in deepening environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and China, aimed at effectively countering global climate challenges and strengthening regional cooperation.
