Penalties for human trafficking crimes have been tightened in Uzbekistan

    The Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ZRU-1065 dated 05/19/2025) amended the Criminal Code.

    It is envisaged by amending article 135 of the Criminal Code to toughen penalties for committing crimes related to human trafficking.

    Thus, the commission of a crime related to human trafficking using forged documents, as well as with the seizure, concealment or destruction of identity documents of the victim, is punishable:

    · imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years.

    Previously, the maximum sentence was 8 years.

    Also, such actions resulting in the death of the victim or other grave consequences are punishable:

    · imprisonment from 10 to 15 years.

    Previously, this period ranged from 8 to 12 years.

    The Law comes into force on the day of its official publication.
