Vladimir Norov met with Chairman of the Assembly of the Global Institute for Green Growth Ban Ki-moon

    On October 24, 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov, who is in Seoul to participate in the 15th Central Asia-Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum, met with the Chairman of the Assembly of the Global Institute for Green Growth (GGGI), former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

    The current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the Global Institute for Green Growth were discussed at the meeting.

    The importance of opening a GGGI representative office in Uzbekistan in February 2022 was noted, which opens up wide opportunities for cooperation in the field of curbing climate change processes, developing green technologies and a green economy, decarbonizing industry based on international best practices, including Korean.

    In accordance with the agreement between the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and GGGI, the project "Green Restoration for the Aral Sea region to overcome the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis" is currently being implemented, at a cost of $5.9 million. Projects in the field of "green" agricultural production" on the Aral Sea and renewable energy are being worked out.

    For his part, Ban Ki-moon noted that he is well aware of the environmental problems of Central Asia, has repeatedly visited the Aral Sea region, where he personally got acquainted with the catastrophic consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea.

    He emphasized the timeliness of the large-scale initiative "Yashil Makon" put forward by the President of Uzbekistan, as well as the Strategy adopted in Uzbekistan for the transition to a "green" economy and the Program for the development of renewable and hydrogen energy, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.
