A delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov and Minister of Water Resources Shavkat Khamrayev is taking part in the opening ceremony of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
In an event held under the slogan "Our land. Our Future" is attended by representatives of 197 Parties to the Convention (196 countries and the European Union). The conference will last until December 13 this year.
Last November, Samarkand hosted the 21st session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, which was attended by over a thousand delegates from 196 countries.
