Secondary School No. 242 was recognized as the most energy-efficient school in the capital.

On October 18, the award ceremony was held, which was organized by the European Union (EU) through the project "Sustainable Energy Links in Central Asia" (SECCA) in close cooperation with the Agency for Strategic Reforms under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan within the framework of the "EU - Uzbekistan" campaign: Days of Sustainable Energy".

The purpose of the ceremony was to raise public awareness about the importance and benefits of implementing energy efficiency and energy conservation policies and practices in Uzbekistan. Representatives of the EU, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, schools, national experts of Uzbekistan and European experts on energy efficiency and energy audit took part in the ceremony.

Mr. Vin Repma, Head of the Department of Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union in Uzbekistan, presented a diploma and a commemorative crystal statuette to the director of the school, Ms. Kamola Azimkhodjayeva.

"I heartily congratulate the teachers, students and parents of School No. 242 on this achievement! The award "The Most Energy Efficient School" emphasizes the importance of energy conservation not only in educational institutions, but also in buildings throughout Uzbekistan. This achievement is the school's contribution to the country's sustainable energy transition. I hope that other schools will be inspired by your bright example, will strive to use natural resources more efficiently, save energy and contribute to the protection of the environment and climate," said Vin Repma.

This nomination was the result of a study conducted by the SECCA project, during which, based on data from the Agency for Strategic Reforms and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the most energy-efficient school was determined. The assessment was based on an analysis of energy consumption per student. This approach allows us to identify how students and teachers affect energy consumption, and provides a panoramic view of the practice and efficiency of energy consumption in the school, providing a basis for targeted intervention and improvements.

The director of the school K. Azimkhodjayeva was also invited to a study trip to Europe to get acquainted with the European experience in the field of renewable energy, energy conservation, energy efficiency and transition to sustainable energy. The study trip is scheduled for November 2023 and will be organized by the SECCA project.

After the award ceremony, a technical seminar "Energy Audit of buildings - from theory to practice" was held, conducted by experts of the EU project in order to exchange knowledge, experience and best practices with Uzbek energy specialists.
