The film from Uzbekistan received an award in Cannes

    The documentary "Dreamers" about the Jadids won the Best Educational Film nomination at the World Film Festival in Cannes.

    At first, the film was presented in the nomination "Best historical film". Subsequently, the jury moved it to the "Best Educational Film" category.

    The film "Dreamers" tells about the origin of Jadidism, the fate of its supporters, the influence of the political events of 1917 on the reform movement and the importance of the Jadids for the history of Uzbekistan. The film also focuses on the issue of gender equality and touches on the theme of the progressive movement in other Central Asian countries.

    BWG Production, which shot the film, became the first company from Central Asia to be represented at the festival. The film was shot in Uzbekistan, Russia and Turkey. The work on the film took about two years.

    "Dreamers" competed with filmmakers from the USA, Europe and Africa.

    As the director of the film Ruslan Saliev notes, the award was a significant victory for Uzbek cinema, as it is a unique opportunity to present our story to the Western audience.
