The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on sustainable forest management on the initiative of Uzbekistan

    On August 13, 2024, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution "Promoting sustainable forest management, including afforestation and reforestation, on degraded lands, including in drylands, as an effective solution to environmental problems."

    The resolution is based on the concept of the national program "Yashil Makon" implemented in our country on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which is aimed at preserving and restoring biodiversity through landscaping of urban and rural areas.

    The document reflects the key proposals of the Head of our State on effectively countering climate change and combating land degradation, announced during the 78th session of the General Assembly and the 28th UN Climate Conference.

    The resolution was co-sponsored by more than 100 member countries, including all Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan, Austria, Belgium, Bahrain, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Indonesia, Qatar, China, KSA, Latvia, Mongolia, Morocco, Oman, UAE, Pakistan, Portugal, Russia, Republic of Korea, Turkey, France and other countries representing various regions of the world.

    The resolution comprehensively reveals the economic, social and environmental benefits of sustainable forest management and tree planting. Their contribution to increasing biodiversity, mitigating the effects of climate change and air pollution, and achieving sustainable development goals, including poverty eradication and food security, will be emphasized.

    A distinctive feature of the resolution is its compliance with the latest scientific trends in the field of environmental protection. Specific recommendations are provided to the UN member states in the field of arboriculture in order to preserve and enhance biodiversity using nature-saving and ecosystem methods, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
