In response to the threat, Chinese scientists have begun developing so-called "cannibal mosquitoes" capable of eating their own species' larvae in order to reduce the number of virus vectors.
Meanwhile, the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health of Uzbekistan issued an official statement in which it stressed that this disease does not pose a danger to the population of the republic.
According to the agency, the virus carriers - mosquitoes of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus species - do not live in natural conditions in the country.
"Uzbekistan is implementing systematic measures aimed at ensuring epidemiological stability," the Committee said.
