Israeli Foreign Ministry: Long-term peace in Gaza is impossible as long as Hamas is in power there

There will be no long-term peace in the Gaza Strip as long as the Hamas movement is in power there.

As the Report reports with reference to the EFE news agency, this opinion was expressed by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar at a press conference on the introduction of a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

"There will be no peace, stability, or security for both sides of the conflict as long as Hamas rules in the Gaza Strip," he said.

According to the minister, "the Israelis have failed to achieve their main goal - to destroy the military and legal potential of Hamas, although the war itself is not a goal, but in the absence of other opportunities to achieve their goals, they will have to return to military action. Saarland noted that it considers the ceasefire regime to be only a "temporary measure."

It should be noted that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip came into force earlier on Sunday. There are three stages of its implementation. The first one is designed for 42 days. At this time, a ceasefire will be in effect, and Israeli forces will leave the most densely populated areas of the strip and withdraw to the borders of the enclave. Hamas will release 33 Israeli hostages, including women and elderly citizens, and Israel will release 1,890 Palestinian prisoners.
