According to the Japanese NHK World TV channel, an earthquake can take the lives of 298,000 people, and seismologists and experts estimate the probability of such an earthquake with a magnitude of 8 to 9 in the next 30 years at about 80 percent, the Dunyo news agency reports.
It is noted that the seismic intensity will reach a maximum of 7 points on the Japanese scale in 10 prefectures and will be below 6 points or higher in 24 prefectures. Also, a tsunami with a height of at least 10 meters can hit Tokyo and 12 other prefectures. In some areas, it reaches a height of 30 meters.
"It is expected that the largest number of deaths will be caused by the tsunami, and a week after the earthquake, up to 12.3 million people, or 10% of Japan's population, will be evacuated," the TV channel reports. "The economic damage from the disaster will amount to 270.3 trillion yen, which will double the national budget."
