According to police, the helicopter crashed on Wednesday evening on one of the most popular tourist routes. The flight was part of a rescue operation to evacuate people from the mountain.

Among those who did not survive were two foreigners who were transported as part of a medical evacuation. Also on board were a local doctor, a guide and a pilot.

The incident occurred between the Barafu camp and Kibo Peak at an altitude of over 4,000 meters.

Simon Maigwa, commander of the Kilimanjaro Regional Police, told reporters that the aircraft belonged to Kilimanjaro Aviation, a company that provides air ambulance services, among other things. Representatives of the company have not yet made comments, reports gazeta.ru.
