Remains of a 2,700-year-old theater have been found on a Greek island

On the Greek island of Lefkada, archaeologists have discovered the remains of an ancient Greek theater, which remained unknown for a long time.

Excavations on Kulmos Hill, which began in 2015, confirmed the existence of an amphitheater with rows of seats, an orchestra area and the supporting walls of the stage.

Although the construction of the theater was apparently not completed, the researchers estimated that it could accommodate about 3,500 spectators. If the construction had been completed, the capacity would have reached 10 000 – 11 000 a man.

Despite the damage from agricultural activities and time, the lower parts of the theater have been well preserved. azertag.az.
