The CIS Observer Mission for the Russian presidential elections is headed by Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth Ilkhom Nematov

    The head of the CIS Observer Mission, Deputy Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Ilkhom Nematov, visited the Vladimir region of Russia as part of the long-term monitoring of the election campaign for the election of the President of Russia.

    According to the CIS Executive Committee portal, during the trip, meetings were held with the chairman of the regional election commission Vadim Minaev and the head of the Public Monitoring Center, Chairman of the Commission for Public Control and Development of Civil Society of the Public Chamber of the region Galina Miseleva, visited a number of polling stations, the Dune news agency reports.

    It was noted at the meetings that 1 million 81 thousand 50 people have the right to vote in the region. 23 territorial election commissions and 978 precinct commissions are involved in the preparation and conduct of elections. 470 polling stations are equipped with surveillance cameras, and video recording of the voting process is provided for all the others.

    The Vladimir Region is one of the regions where remote electronic voting (DEG) is conducted along with the traditional one. To date, about 92 thousand applications have been received to participate in the elections through the DEG.

    During his conversation with journalists, Ilkhom Nematov answered their questions, noting that the Mission's assessments will be based solely on the results of his own observation, as well as on official information and factual data provided by other interested government agencies.

    Recall that by decision of the Council of Permanent Plenipotentiaries of the Commonwealth Member States, the CIS Observer Mission for the presidential elections of Russia was headed by Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Ilkhom Nematov.

    The election of the President of the Russian Federation is scheduled for March 15-17, 2024. According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, the Observer Mission will monitor the electoral campaign at the invitation of the Russian side in accordance with the Convention on Standards of Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms in the CIS member States and the Regulations on the CIS Observer Mission for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, as well as Referendums in the member states, guided by legislation Russia. At the same time, the work of the CIS Observer Mission will be based on the principles of openness, neutrality and non-interference in the electoral process and in the internal affairs of the state.

    Until January 1, 2021, when he was appointed to the CIS Executive Committee, Ilkhom Nematov worked as Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan. In his current position, he has more than once headed CIS election observation missions in a number of Commonwealth countries.
