A strong G3 class magnetic storm has begun on Earth. The reason was a sharp spike in the speed of the solar wind in near-Earth space, Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos weather center, said in his Telegram channel.
"In the second half of the night, there was a sharp surge in the speed of the solar wind in near-Earth space, above 650 km/s, and its temperature - it sometimes exceeded 1 million degrees. The geomagnetic field of our planet reacted to this by erupting into a strong G3 class magnetic storm. The start of the event is fixed at 5:16 a.m. Moscow time," he wrote.
According to the forecaster, the storm is likely to be short-lived and will end soon, however, disturbances in the geomagnetic field will persist until the end of the day and on Friday.
It is specified that the world's forecasting centers expected only weak disturbances during the day, and the probability of magnetic storms in their forecasts did not exceed 51%. tass.ru.
