Sébastien Lecornu has been appointed the new Prime Minister of France

French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed former Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu as the country's new prime minister.

The first task of the new head of government will be "to hold consultations with the political forces represented in parliament," according to the publication Figaro. Lecornu will have to convince parliamentarians of the need to adopt a budget as soon as possible and "reach the agreements necessary for decision-making in the coming months."

The new government will be appointed only after Lecornu has consulted with the political parties.

Initially, Lecornu was considered the favorite to succeed François Bayrou as prime minister.

Sebastien Lecornu has become the seventh prime minister since Emmanuel Macron came to power and the fifth in the last three years. rg.ru.
