The OSCE supports consultations to discuss a new National Action Plan on women, peace and security

    The OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, in cooperation with the National Center for Human Rights and the Committee on Family and Women's Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, organized National discussions in Nukus on the implementation of the National Action Plan for 2022-2025, as well as consideration of the draft National Action Plan for 2026-2030 on the implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and security."

    The event was organized as part of a series of national consultations in the country's regions. It was attended by representatives of the Committee on Family and Women's Affairs, judges in civil and criminal cases, employees of the Prosecutor's Office, customs authorities, the National Guard, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Mahalla Association, Karakalpak State University and civil society institutions.

    During the consultations, the results of the implementation of the plan for 2022-2025 were summarized, including achievements in protecting women from violence and enhancing their role in public and political life. The participants also identified priorities and considered current tasks related to the draft National Action Plan for 2026-2030.

    In welcoming remarks, Director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov, OSCE Project Coordinator Antti Karttunen, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Family and Women Mukarram Nurmatova and Head of the Secretariat for Family and Women of the Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan Bayramgul Ayimbetova stressed the importance of cooperation in the implementation of the resolution. OSCE Project Coordinator Antti Karttunen noted: "The promotion of gender equality is an integral element of justice, as well as a key factor for sustainability, security and peace. UN Security Council Resolution 1325 represents not only an international commitment, but also a shared moral responsibility to present and future generations."

    As a result of the discussions, the draft National Action Plan for 2026-2030 was noted as an important tool for further strengthening gender equality, increasing women's participation in public and political life and ensuring reliable protection of their rights and interests.
