A few days ago, a consultative seminar on the topic "The role of climate data and services in climate risk management in Uzbekistan" was held in the city of Samarkand.

This event is organized within the framework of the initiative of a Single Advisory Group of International Agricultural Institutes, including such organizations as the Institute of Water Resources Management (IWMI), ICARDA, CGIAR, Alliance of Bioversity International and IFPRI, together with the Senate Committee on the Development of the Aral Sea Region and Ecology and the Environmental Movement.

During the event, attention was paid to the issues of diversification of production, improvement of land and water relations, wide introduction of market mechanisms, information and communication technologies into the sphere, as well as effective use of scientific achievements and improvement of human resources.

The Concept of Development of the water economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030 has been adopted in order to provide the population and all sectors of the economy with water, improve the reclamation condition of irrigated lands, widely introduce market principles and mechanisms and digital technologies into the water sector and increase the efficiency of land and water resources use.

During the seminar, experts noted that Uzbekistan is among the countries severely affected by climate change. Unless additional conservation measures are developed, the country will face water scarcity, desertification and land degradation in the future, which may lead to increased climate change.

The participants also discussed such issues as the creation in Uzbekistan of sustainable agro-food systems capable of functioning under the negative impact of climate change, adaptation to climate change, contributing to the improvement of the ecological state, conservation of water resources, the choice and application of mitigation methods, the application of best practices in practice, slowing down the processes of desertification and land degradation, drought and development of resource-saving measures, implementation of a program to expand innovations and digital tools in agriculture.

According to the results of the seminar, appropriate recommendations were developed on the basis of the proposals made, the information service of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan reports.
