A list of banned Internet resources on the territory of Uzbekistan has been published

    The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan has updated the list of materials prohibited from import, manufacture, distribution and demonstration in the country as containing ideas of extremism and terrorism. A detailed list as of May 17, 2023 is given on Friday by the Committee on Religious Affairs.

    According to the Presidential decree "On additional measures to improve the activities of the religious and educational sphere" dated September 4, 2019, the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme Court were instructed to publish on their official websites, as well as in the media, a list of organizations, websites, social networks and mobile messengers recognized by the court as extremist or terrorist, whose activities It is prohibited on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as to ensure its constant updating.

    Facebook Instagram, Telegram, Youtube, Odnoklassniki, and other popular social networks' pages and groups are included in this list as of May 17, 2023.ru" and TikTok, as well as religious chants "nasheeds", websites and books. Moreover, most of this content is posted on Telegram and Facebook. Instagram and Youtube are in third place with a small difference.

    "The Committee on Religious Affairs does not give an expert opinion to a specific person or his actions. The Committee conducts a state religious studies examination of religious content materials submitted by law enforcement agencies and prepares an expert opinion on them in accordance with the requirements of the Constitution and other legislative acts," the ministry said in a statement.

    At the same time, it is emphasized that informing the public about the content recognized as illegal is one of the important factors determining the effectiveness of activities in this direction.

    It is noted that Uzbekistan has developed a mechanism for identifying and suppressing the activities of Internet sites, channels, profiles containing materials of extremist and terrorist content. Within the framework of this mechanism, the Committee on Religious Affairs, together with the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Agency for Information and Mass Communications, identifies radical religious content on the Internet, which, according to the decision of the Supreme Court, are recognized as extremist and terrorist.

    Thus, the Supreme Court issued about 60 rulings, according to which more than 500 materials were recognized as radical and prohibited from production, distribution, storage, import and demonstration on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
