The concert took place on Saturday at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The singer performed in front of the audience for free.
The Rio de Janeiro State Police, together with the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, identified a group of intruders. The suspects had previously promoted hate speech, encouraged aggressive behavior by teenagers and the distribution of aggressive content, the police said.
"The suspects recruited participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and molotov cocktails," the ministry said in a statement. According to Reuters, the group planned to detonate a bomb at Lady Gaga's concert.
According to the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, the recruiters introduced themselves as members of the worldwide Gaga fan association, known as the "Little Monsters." That's what the singer's fans call themselves. The singer launched a social network under this name in 2012.
Law enforcement officers have identified "digital cells" that the suspects have created on the Internet. Through them, they encouraged the aggressive behavior of the recruits, while using special "coded" language and extremist symbols.
The security forces consider the leader of the group to be a man who was arrested in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul on suspicion of illegal possession of firearms. Authorities have issued more than a dozen search warrants in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul and Sao Paulo, according to Reuters.
