After being declared persona non grata, Guterres condemned the strike on Israel

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in his address to the UN Security Council on Wednesday, October 2, "strongly condemned" the Iranian missile strike on Israel after Tel Aviv declared him persona non grata for the lack of reaction to the attack.

"As I did in connection with the Iranian attack in April – and as it should have been obvious yesterday in the context of the condemnation I expressed – I again strongly condemn yesterday's large–scale Iranian missile attack on Israel," the official said.

He noted that "paradoxically" such attacks do not contribute to the cause of the Palestinian people or reduce their suffering.

Earlier, during a massive Iranian attack, Guterres wrote on the social network X condemning the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East, saying that the parties need to cease fire. Neither Iran nor Israel were mentioned in the message.

Recall that on Wednesday, Israel declared the UN Secretary General persona non grata. The Foreign Ministry noted that anyone who cannot unequivocally condemn Iran's attack on Israel, as almost all countries of the world have done, does not deserve to set foot on Israeli soil.

It should be noted that on October 1, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the "expansion of the conflict in the Middle East" and called for a ceasefire. This happened against the background of Iran's massive missile attack on Israel, which Tehran organized in response to the Israeli operation against the Lebanese Hezbollah. Guterres' statement was very concise and consisted of only two short sentences, reports korrespondent.net.
