The event was organized by the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in our country.

The event was attended by Yu Jun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Uzbekistan, more than 500 senior staff of the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan and regional information and library centers, the Institute of State Law of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, the Notary Chamber of Uzbekistan, representatives of scientific and academic circles, the media, staff of the National Center and doctoral students. The event was held offline and online.

Opening the event, academician Akmal Saidov, director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, drew attention to the fact that, at the initiative of the head of our state, the task was set to bring the number of books read by one person in our country to an average of 10 books per year in order to radically increase the level of reading among the population in 2026-2030.

As President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted: "Any state and any people in the world are strong, first of all, because of their intellectual potential and high spirituality. The source of this invincible power is the greatest inventions of human thought - books and libraries."

In accordance with the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan "On measures to develop reading culture and increase public interest in reading books", adopted on January 15, 2026, a "Book corner" will be created in all ministries and departments, and a monthly "Reading Hour" will be introduced for employees. An internal rating system is also being implemented, according to which an employee, who is determined on a competitive basis to be the most reading, will be paid a cash bonus in the amount of one average monthly salary.

In this regard, it should be noted that the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, together with foreign and national partners, consistently pays attention to the development of education and enlightenment in the field of human rights. Today, Constitution and Human Rights corners have been created in hundreds of libraries in our country, which are regularly updated with new books.

During the event, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Uzbekistan Yu Jun briefly spoke about the content, essence and meaning of the books "On Public Administration", "On Respect and Protection of Human Rights", "Eradication of Poverty", written by President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. The Chinese Ambassador expressed gratitude to the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan for organizing this high-level presentation.

The Chinese Embassy handed over about 800 books to the Human Rights House.

The speakers emphasized that the books provided were of great importance as authoritative sources revealing China's conceptual approaches to human rights protection. It was noted that a large number of books in Uzbek among these publications opens up new opportunities for the exchange of scientific knowledge, deepening interstate dialogue and expanding humanitarian cooperation between the societies of Uzbekistan and China.

Books on human rights and Chinese culture are of great importance not only for the Human Rights House, but also for replenishing the collections of the leading information and library centers in our country.

At the end of the event, 350 books from among those donated by the Chinese Embassy were allocated to the National Library of Uzbekistan. The relevant certificates were presented to the staff of the National Library.
