Arms sales have become a record after the Cold War, CAWAT said

The volume of global arms sales in 2024 became a record after the end of the Cold War, reaching 111.6 billion dollars, according to a report by the Center for Analysis of the World Arms Trade (CAWAT), which is available to RIA Novosti.

CAWAT conducts all calculations in "current" US dollars, that is, at the dollar exchange rate at the time of conclusion of a contract in the prices of the corresponding year.

"In 2024, the volume of global exports / imports of conventional weapons (according to the classification of the UN Register) amounted, according to the Center for Analysis of the World Arms Trade (CAWAT), to 111.615 billion dollars, which is the highest result since the end of the Cold War era," the report says.

For comparison, in 2021, the volume of global exports of arms and military equipment amounted to 82.942 billion dollars, in 2022 - 106.185 billion dollars, in 2023 - 96.889 billion dollars.

According to CAWAT experts, the sharp increase in global arms exports/imports is due to several factors, including the situation around Ukraine. ria.ru.
