"English Speaking Nation: Secondary Teacher Training" (ESN:STT) is a three-year program with a budget of 5 million US dollars, the purpose of which is to train and provide professional development opportunities to more than 15 thousand English teachers in public schools throughout the Republic of Uzbekistan, the press service of the US Embassy in Uzbekistan reports.
Within the framework of the ESN:STT Program implemented by the American Councils for International Education organization, representatives of the TESOL International Association were invited to Uzbekistan so that from June to December 2021 they would certify 386 teachers of Uzbekistan under the TESOL Core Certificate Program (TCCP), which is an intensive, internationally recognized 140-hour full-time practical course. In October last year, 196 teachers of Uzbekistan took part in the professional development seminar "Training of Trainers" (TOT) and successfully completed the course "Teaching English in English" (TETE), organized and conducted by George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, in addition to the TESOL "6 Principles" training course.
Starting from March 4, 82 core trainers-instructors (CT) from Uzbekistan, certified by the International Association "TESOL" and working in public schools and universities throughout Uzbekistan, began to transfer their knowledge and information to other colleagues-teachers of English throughout Uzbekistan. Each Core Trainer-Instructor (ST) from Uzbekistan will train groups of 10-12 fellow teachers, known as Regional Peer Mentors (RPM). For the next 12 weeks, every Friday, these 82 core instructor trainers will conduct weekly training sessions with 837 regional mentor colleagues (RPM) across the country in accordance with TESOL's "6 Principles" training course and George Mason's "English Language Teaching in English" (TETE) course.
Answering the question about the series of classes "ESN:STT Teacher to Teacher", Dilnoza Boymirzayeva, the main trainer-instructor working at the specialized school No. 61 in Andijan, said: "In my opinion, the transfer of knowledge and information will be a good opportunity for English language teachers (RPM) to expand their knowledge by studying new methods and tasks that can be used during lessons. I am sure that participation in the ESN project will make teachers' lessons more effective and interesting."
The ultimate goal of the ESN:STT program is to strengthen and enhance the teaching potential, as well as to train the most capable and experienced teachers of the Ministry of Public Education, while simultaneously transferring modern teaching methods, standards and norms to an ever-growing number of English teachers in public schools throughout Uzbekistan.
