During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the Afghan direction, in particular, the development of the current situation in this country.

A high-ranking Japanese diplomat praised Uzbekistan's efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and economic assistance to Afghanistan.

  1. Nagaoka noted the similarity of the positions and approaches of the Uzbek and Japanese sides in relation to the new Afghan authorities.

In this regard, the importance of the Interim Government of Afghanistan fulfilling the basic requirements of the international community, in particular, to ensure the rights of women and national minorities, the creation of a Government based on broad representation, was stressed.

The Japanese side also offered to establish a constructive exchange of views on Afghan issues within the framework of the Central Asia-Japan dialogue, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.
