On November 26, 2022, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatullah Irgashev, held talks in Riyadh with the Deputy head of the Main Department for Planning Political Affairs - the head of the special group on Afghanistan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Khalid bin Saud al Kabir.

During the conversation, the efforts of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia to peacefully resolve the Afghan crisis and provide humanitarian and other assistance to the country as soon as possible were discussed.

Abdullah bin Khalid bin Saud Al Kabir highly appreciated Uzbekistan's practical steps in this direction, especially noting the successful holding of the international conference "Afghanistan: Security and Economic Development" in Tashkent at the end of July this year.

The sides emphasized the importance of restoring the socio-economic infrastructure of Afghanistan and the country's broader involvement in regional integration processes.

The Saudi side, emphasizing the timeliness of the efforts of the Republic of Uzbekistan to implement the project on the construction of the Termez-Mazar-I-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway line in Afghanistan, expressed its full support for the implementation of this project.

The opinion was expressed that without developing a consolidated position of the world community regarding the new authorities of Afghanistan, as well as increasing international humanitarian assistance, it is impossible to resolve the acute socio-economic crisis in the country.

The sides expressed mutual interest in continuing consultations on Afghan issues at the level of special representatives of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.
