The Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan met with the UNHCR representative for Central Asia

On March 2, 2022, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, held a meeting with the representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Central Asia, Hans Friedrich Schodder.

The current state and prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UNHCR in the Afghan direction are considered.

H. F. Schodder highly appreciated Uzbekistan's efforts to establish long-term and sustainable peace in Afghanistan.

The need to intensify cooperation in providing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people was noted.

The UNHCR representative expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for their assistance in creating a multifunctional transport and logistics hub in Termez to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. In this regard, the possibility of expanded use of this hub as the main transit point for humanitarian supplies to assist UNHCR operations not only in Afghanistan, but also in Iran and Central Asia was discussed, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.
