Thailand and Cambodia signed a “Peace Agreement”

TASS reports that Thailand and Cambodia signed a “Peace Agreement” during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Kuala Lumpur.

The agreement was signed by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, with the participation of US President Donald Trump.

Previously, Nikondet Phalangkun, Director-General of the Information Department and Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, had announced that the parties were signing a joint declaration aimed at laying the foundation for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, rather than a peace agreement.

On July 24, clashes occurred between Thailand and Cambodia near border area of Oddar Meanchey region. On July 28, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced a truce between the countries after negotiations in Kuala Lumpur. Following this, a number of incidents occurred where Thai servicemen were hit by mines. According to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the end of September, Cambodian soldiers fired small weapons and grenade launchers into Thai territory, which put Thai servicemen on high combat alert, reported by belta.by.
