Durov stressed that the search in Telegram is more powerful than in other messengers, because it allows users to find public channels and bots.
"Unfortunately, this feature is being abused by people who violate our Terms of Use to sell illegal goods," the head of the application emphasizes.
In recent weeks, the moderators of the messenger have used artificial intelligence to remove all "problematic content that we found in the Search," Pavel Durov noted.
Durov stressed that Telegram is designed to find friends and news, not to promote illegal things, and that the new conditions are aimed at the security of the platform, which is used by almost a billion people.
"In order to deter attackers from abusing Telegram search, we have updated our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy to ensure their consistency worldwide. We have made it clear that IP addresses and phone numbers that violate our rules can be disclosed to the relevant authorities in response to legitimate requests," the CEO of the social network said in a statement.
