Uzatom and Italian Ansaldo Energia discussed cooperation on the project of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan

    A delegation of the Uzatom Agency headed by Director Azim Akhmedkhadjayev is on a working visit to Genoa (Italy) on October 20-22.

    The program of the visit includes a number of business negotiations, including meetings with the leadership of the Liguria region, the administration of Genoa, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, technological universities and Italian companies in the energy sector.

    On October 20, a meeting was held with the management of Ansaldo Energia Holding and one of its subsidiaries specializing in nuclear energy technologies, Ansaldo Nuclear. The holding is one of the leading participants in the European energy market, engaged in the design, engineering, production and supply of energy equipment, including steam and gas turbine generators.

    The development of cooperation in the implementation of the project for the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan is on the agenda. During the negotiations, the parties discussed issues of technological integration and adaptation of the solutions of the auxiliary systems of the Italian partners to the climatic conditions of Uzbekistan.

    The Italian side presented its experience in the creation of safety systems and software development for them, the supply of basic and auxiliary equipment for nuclear power plants, as well as in the management of spent nuclear fuel. In addition, the company's competence in the maintenance of nuclear power plants in countries such as China, Belgium, Slovenia, Hungary and Ukraine was noted.

    During the negotiations, the possibilities of attracting holding companies as technical consultants who will monitor the implementation of the NPP construction project in Uzbekistan, as well as the development of effective support solutions were discussed.

    Special attention is paid to the issues of cooperation in the field of radioactive waste management and the possible production of spent nuclear fuel management systems, which are Ansaldo Nuclear's own development.

    The Italian side expressed interest in participating in consulting activities on the formation of a national regulatory framework and licensing in the nuclear industry. The prospect of creating joint research and development activities (R&D) aimed at improving technologies and training qualified personnel in the field of nuclear energy was also discussed.

    The visit of the delegation of the Uzatom Agency helps strengthen bilateral ties between Uzbekistan and Italy and opens up new opportunities for the introduction of advanced European technologies in the development of the national nuclear industry.
