On October 18-19, 2022, at the invitation of the Government of Tajikistan and the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov is taking part in the high-level conference "International and regional cooperation on border security in order to combat terrorism and prevent cross-border movement of terrorists."

On the sidelines of the conference on October 18, a meeting was held with the UN Deputy Secretary General - Head of the UN Counter-Terrorism Directorate Vladimir Voronkov.

The current state and prospects for the development of cooperation to ensure peace and security in Central Asia, including within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, were discussed.

During the conversation, the parties noted that the high-level international conference on the implementation of this strategy in Central Asia, organized on March 3-4, 2022 in Tashkent, made it possible to agree on common principles and approaches to combating terrorism, taking into account the changing international socio-political and socio-economic environment in the region.

We remind you that during the high-level international conference "Regional Cooperation of Central Asian countries within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy" a number of important documents were adopted.

Among them is the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy in a new edition, as well as the Tashkent Declaration, which confirmed the commitment of the Central Asian states to cooperation within the framework of the new action plan.

Following the meeting, a roadmap was signed, which includes initiatives and proposals put forward during the Tashkent Conference and defines priority areas of bilateral cooperation.

It was emphasized that the document will contribute to raising cooperation to a qualitatively new level and enrich it with practical content.

The roadmap involves the organization of high-level joint events, the creation of a virtual network to counter cyberterrorism in Central Asia, the exchange of experience on the effective use of local communities (mahallas) in the rehabilitation and reintegration of returnees, the creation of a regional expert council on this issue under the auspices of the UN Counter-Terrorism Office, and other activities.

In particular, in order to promote the ideas and principles of tolerance, interreligious and intercultural dialogue with the participation of all segments of society, a high-level conference "Education and religious tolerance" is planned to be held in Uzbekistan in 2023 under the auspices of the UN, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports.
