An artisanal copper mine collapsed in DR Congo, killing 32 people

At least 32 people have died as a result of the collapse of an artisanal copper mine in the village of Mulondo in the southeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This is reported by RFI radio station with reference to the governor of Lualaba province, Fifi Masuku. ria.ru.

"Masuka reported initial data, according to which at least 32 people were killed, which corresponds to the number of bodies found and taken to morgues. But the Lualaba Artisanal Miners Association has already claimed 49 dead and several dozen missing," the radio station reported.

As noted, the governor cited rain, which weakened the ground, as the reason for the collapse that occurred on Saturday. However, several sources in the civil society of Lualaba claim that there was a conflict between the miners and the military guarding the facility, as a result of which the soldiers opened fire, which led to the collapse of a makeshift bridge and a further collapse in the mine, the radio station reports.
