A commuter train derailed near the Spanish city of Barcelona on Tuesday, January 20. This is the second accident on the Spanish railway in recent days, El País reports.

Heavy rains and flooding have been reported in the region in recent days. Claudi Gallardo, inspector of the Catalonia Regional Fire Service, said in a comment to reporters: the train derailed after a retaining wall fell on the track due to heavy rain near Barcelona.

The ambulance service provided assistance to 37 injured passengers. Five are in serious condition, six are in less serious condition, and 26 have minor injuries. According to the fire service, most of the victims were in the first car at the time of the accident, which was most affected by the impact on the wall.

It is reported that train traffic in Catalonia has been suspended and will not be resumed until "inspection work on the infrastructure is completed."
