A new type of bluthang virus has appeared in the Netherlands

The Netherlands has recorded the first cases of infection with a new type of bluetongue virus, for which there are no vaccines.

On Tuesday, October 15, reports NU.nl.

It is noted that the virus was found in a sheep, as well as in a cow and her calf on two different farms in the Dutch province of Utrecht.

"There is no vaccine against this type of virus yet. This option has not been found in the Netherlands before, but is common in other countries outside Europe," the publication says.

The bluetongue virus is an infectious disease of a viral nature that can be recognized, among other things, by the blue color of the tongue. Only ruminants are sensitive, so mainly cattle, sheep and goats are affected. It is transmitted through the bites of some species of midges.

There is no danger of infection for people with the virus. Meat and milk of infected animals can be eaten without restrictions. Other products made from them are also harmless to humans and suitable for consumption, reports korrespondent.net.
