"Russia is introducing a temporary restriction on the export of durum wheat from the country. The order has been signed. The decision is aimed at ensuring food security and will help maintain a stable situation with prices for durum wheat products in the domestic market," the message says.
The temporary restriction comes into force from the moment the government decree is published and will be valid until May 31, 2024, TASS reports.
At the same time, a number of exceptions are provided. These include the export of durum wheat for international humanitarian assistance and within the framework of international intergovernmental agreements, its export from the territory of Russia to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as supplies.
Durum wheat is allowed to be exported to the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union - Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan - within the limits established by the government's order of quotas, subject to permits issued by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia.
The department explained its position by a decrease in the global durum wheat harvest and increased demand for it in the world. According to estimates, its harvest this season in the vast majority of producing countries will fall to a 20-year low. In this regard, there was an increased demand for durum wheat in the foreign market, the message said.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the proposed restrictions will allow to provide producers of pasta in the Russian Federation with raw materials in full.
