During the conversation, Mafalda Duarte highly appreciated the large-scale reforms carried out under the leadership of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, stressing that they ensure the sustainable development of all spheres of the country's life.
She also noted that the goals outlined in the Uzbekistan 2030 strategy, in particular in the development of "green" financing, adaptation to climate change and environmental protection, are important not only for Uzbekistan, but also of interest to the international community. It was emphasized that Uzbekistan competently assesses climate threats and takes appropriate measures based on scientific research.
The parties discussed in detail the issues of expanding cooperation in the framework of joint projects and programs aimed at adapting to climate change and mitigating their consequences.
The meeting also discussed the opening of a regional representative office of the Green Climate Fund in Uzbekistan, the development of joint innovative projects on landscaping and sustainable land management, improving the socio-environmental situation in the Aral Sea region, the effective use of the Fund's financial resources, as well as the creation of joint educational programs with the Green University.
