Starting from March 11, 2025, a temporary ban on fishing in a number of rivers and reservoirs will come into force in Uzbekistan. The restrictions were introduced in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 627 "On Hunting and Hunting Management" and Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 80, adopted on February 9, 2024.

According to the new rules, fishing on the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers is completely prohibited from March 11 to May 31. From April 26 to June 10, restrictions apply to natural reservoirs of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region. In addition, from April 16 to May 31, fishing will be prohibited in all other natural reservoirs of the country.

These periods coincide with the spawning of fish, the time of their reproduction. Fishing during this period can lead to a sharp decline in the population and put the species at risk of extinction.

For reference: this resolution does not apply to intensive fish farming and aquaculture in artificial reservoirs and irrigation networks, as well as to fish farming and fishing in cage farms.

Fishing in prohibited periods and zones, as well as violation of fishing rules, entail administrative and criminal liability.
