Every year, on May 15, by decision of the UN General Assembly, International Family Day is celebrated worldwide.

In 2025, the United Nations announced that International Family Day would focus on the key role of family-oriented programs. This topic is dictated by the preparations for the Second World Summit on Social Development, which will address global issues affecting the family.

International Family Day 2025 aims to raise awareness of the importance of integrating family-centered policies into national development programs to address megatrends such as technological transformation, demographic shifts, urbanization, migration, and climate change.

The family, as the main element of society, has been and remains the guardian of human values, culture and historical continuity of generations, a factor of stability and development. Thanks to the family, the state is growing stronger and developing, and the welfare of the people is growing. At all times, the development of a country has been judged by the position of the family in society and in relation to it by the state.

A person's life begins with a family, and his or her formation as a citizen takes place here. The family is a source of love, respect, solidarity and affection, something on which any civilized society is built, without which a person cannot exist. Family well-being is the measure of a country's development and progress.

Throughout the 1980s, the United Nations paid increasing attention to family issues. Back in 1989, in order to draw the attention of the public of different countries to the numerous problems of the family, the UN General Assembly (GA) proclaimed 1994 the International Year of the Family.

On September 20, 1993, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution stating that "families are an important factor for sustainable development at all levels of society" and proclaimed May 15 as International Family Day.

It provides an opportunity to raise awareness of issues related to families and deepen knowledge of socio-economic and demographic processes affecting the situation of families.
