Recently, a meeting of the working group on the development of a five-year program to improve sanitary conditions in schools in Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent. The event was initiated by the Agency for Strategic Reforms and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.

The program is aimed at achieving the goals outlined in the "Strategy 2030" of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The event was held at the Ministry of Preschool and School Education under the leadership of Deputy Minister Timur Komilov. It was attended by representatives of the Agency for Strategic Reforms, the office of the Delivery Unit under the ASR, the Ministry of Construction and Utilities, as well as UNICEF and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Various autonomous sewerage systems were discussed at the meeting, including solutions offered by private companies in the local market and methods proven in foreign practice. Autonomous systems used in UNICEF and UNDP (UNDP) projects were also reviewed. Based on the analysis carried out and the proposals submitted, several solutions were selected that will be used to develop standard projects.

It was also noted at the meeting that it is important to classify schools according to the level of their provision with toilets and water supply. This will make it possible to rationally allocate the allocated funds, test the selected solutions in various conditions and determine the most effective approaches for each category of schools.

The five-year program provides for government funding for projects to install autonomous sewers and toilets in schools.

In the spring of 2024, the Delivery Unit office conducted an inventory of almost 9.5 thousand schools in Uzbekistan, according to the results of which only 12.5% of schools are connected to a centralized sewer network.
