The Bodleian Library, founded in 1602, is the main research library of the University of Oxford, one of the oldest libraries in Europe, and the second largest in the UK after the British Bookstore. During negotiations with the head of the library's collections, Nikolos Kontavas, an agreement was reached to admit the "golden collection" of the oldest manuscripts to get acquainted with the conditions of storage of these manuscripts. Among the manuscripts are "Diwan-i Ḥusayni" by Sultan Hussein Baykara, "Fununu l-balaġa" by Ahmad Termiziy, "Sadd-i Iskandar" and "Sabʿa-yi sayyara" by Alisher Navoi.
The British side expressed its readiness to study the issue of renting manuscripts from the "golden collection" of the Bodleian Library for display at exhibitions in Uzbekistan, as well as to accept Uzbek specialists for a professional internship to study the British technique of restoration and conservation of ancient manuscripts.
Following negotiations with specialists of the Bodlian Library, the parties agreed to hold a free online training seminar on British standards of restoration, digitization and demonstration of manuscripts for relevant departments of Uzbekistan in 2024.
