A rare stegosaurus skeleton was auctioned for $6 million

The largest and most complete stegosaurus skeleton in history is scheduled to be sold at Sotheby's auction in July. Currently, its price is estimated at 5 million dollars, reports BBC News.

It was found by D. Cooper, a hunter who owns 40 hectares of land in Colorado (USA), and it was identified in the area of the Morrison formation. The hunter found a total of 10 bones there, including a complete skeleton of a giant stegosaurus, which he named Apex.

According to information, the hunter and his friends found the remains in 2022 when he was celebrating his 45th birthday. First they saw the femur, then the spine. It took a year to collect the complete skeleton. 70% of the bones have been recovered, which is an incredibly large number for a stegosaur.

The length of the apex is 8 meters. According to The New York Times, it is twice the size of Sophie, the most complete stegosaurus skeleton previously considered.

Stegosaurs have not previously been put up for auction, although other dinosaurs are very popular for sale there.
