According to the Report, this was reported by ABC TV channel.
The new species, named Khankhuuluu mongoliensis, is a small tyrannosaur that could weigh about 770 kg and reach a length of about 4 m.
It is noted that two incomplete skeletons were found in the Mongolian Gobi Desert back in the 1970s, but were attributed to another dinosaur species. Since then, the fossils have not been studied until 2023. The discovery sheds new light on the evolution of tyrannosaur species and patterns of their dispersal in the Late Cretaceous period, an associate professor at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Natural Sciences told ABC.
