The parliaments of Uzbekistan and Russia have agreed to intensify cooperation in the economy, education and culture

    The tenth meeting of the Commission on Cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation took place in Kazan.

    During the meeting, issues of further development of interparliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia, expansion of interregional ties in trade, economic, educational, agricultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as intensification of tourist exchange between the two countries were discussed.

    It was noted that in January-July 2025, the volume of mutual trade between Uzbekistan and Russia increased by 6.5% compared to the previous year. Uzbekistan's export volume increased by 17%.

    Today, there are branches of 14 leading Russian universities in Uzbekistan. They have more than 20 thousand students.

    The speakers noted that parliamentary diplomacy between Uzbekistan and Russia has become an important component of the strategic partnership today, it is necessary to strengthen economic and humanitarian ties, expand cultural exchange and investment cooperation.

    The meeting focused on the importance of inter-regional relations. Using the example of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Moscow, Samara and Leningrad regions, interregional cooperation was noted as the driving force of bilateral relations. The parliamentarians stressed the need for legislative support for these initiatives.

    The importance of strengthening cooperation in the supply of environmentally friendly agricultural products to the Russian market, improving the transport and logistics system and simplifying phytosanitary requirements was also noted.

    Attention was focused on such issues as the expansion of tourist exchange, the implementation of joint projects, simplification of transport and visa procedures.

    It was emphasized that cooperation in the humanitarian field - cultural exchange, support for youth programs and dialogue among women parliamentarians - contributes to strengthening friendship and mutual trust between the peoples of the two countries.

    Following the meeting, it was proposed to hold the eleventh meeting of the Commission in 2026 in the ancient and beautiful city of Uzbekistan - Khiva.
